Happy New Year friends (there are three days left in January, so I think I can still say that)! I know I’ve been quiet this past month. Holidays and two rounds of influenza didn’t leave much time for new recipes, DIY projects, or much else you’d want to see on these pages. Josh and I did manage to fit in some homemade mustard making just before the holidays. This canned mustard sauce made its way into Christmas packages for several family members and now that the secret is out, I can share it here.

Yield: 2 cups Mustard Sauce
You probably know from my previous posts how much I love mustard. Well, this recipe combines two of my favorites… mustard and barbecue sauce! If you’ve only tasted sweet, syrupy, tomato-based barbecue sauces, I encourage you to give this a try. It is totally different. And it’s fantastic! This sauce was introduced to me by my uncle at a hog roast last summer. He made several sauces and this one was by far both my and Josh’s favorite. Of course, we asked for the recipe, which it turns out is a well-loved pick from The Smoke Ring BBQ forum. Since the hog roast, Josh and I have made this recipe at least a dozen times. It’s awesome on smoked pork and surprisingly good on burgers too. Because of its high acid content, we’ve even canned it for gifts. It’s now a favorite on both sides of our families. I figured since we liked it so much, it deserved its own custom label in true Paper & Pear fashion. Below you’ll find a link to the original recipe along with printable labels for your jars. The labels fit 8, 12, or 16-ounce jars; write in the volume of your choosing.
